CranioSacral Therapy or “CST” encourages your body’s natural mechanisms to improve the functioning of your brain and spinal cord. It can help to address the stresses and strains you absorb every day bringing balance, ease, self-correction, and supporting the body’s own healing potential. Your body can only handle so much tension before the tissues begin to tighten which can affect the brain and spinal cord.
Why is this important?
Unfortunately, this can compromise the function of the Central Nervous System and the performance of nearly every other system in your body!
Any restriction in the body’s natural movement will reduce the function of that area. By freeing the central nervous system to perform at its best, CranioSacral Therapy naturally eliminates pain and stress, strengthens your resistance to disease, and enhances your health and well-being; the benefits you can receive from your CST session are very broad!
This is a wonderful and gentle modality that can also relieve the tensions of the muscles and attachments along all the vertebrae. Therefore, CST can be used alone or integrated with other therapies such as chiropractic care, making adjustments much easier, and causing them to ‘hold’ better because the muscles are no longer tight and resistant to the adjustment.
What Conditions Can CST Address?
CST improves your body’s ability to take better care of you. It can help relieve a full spectrum of pain and body dysfunction including:
- Bladder Urgency Headaches Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- TMJ Syndrome Stress and Tension-related Problems
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Emotional DifficultiesFatigue
- Motor Coordination Impairments Learning Disabilities
- Surgical Recovery
- Sports injuries, sprains, strains
- Chronic Neck and Back Pains
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Learning Disabilities
Your CST session will be in a quiet private setting for about an hour. Throughout your session, you will relax on a comfortable padded table face up, fully clothed, with a blanket if you would like. The therapist uses a very light pressure (about 5 grams) to monitor the rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid that is flowing around your central nervous system and detect areas of restriction and imbalance. Using very gentle manual techniques, restrictions are released, relieving tensions or pressures on the affected tissues, spinal cord, and brain, bringing ease to your body and encouraging optimal function. This helps your body return to greater levels of health and performance, and improves your quality of life.
What Are Others Saying?
“I have been a business owner and professional tattoo artist for over 16 years, and had recently broken my hand while on vacation – one of my most valuable assets! I had broken thirteen bones in the past from racing motorcycles. I have never witnessed a faster result in healing than from cranial therapy. It was noninvasive and increased range of motion in my hand more than any physical therapy could do, overnight! The results have left me speechless. I could see how this would truly benefit professional athletes. Thank you so much!”

“My experience with CranioSacral Therapy has amazed me, since I had no previous exposure to this form of Therapy. Tanya’s subtle guidance of the tissues in the body has relieved my TMJ inflammation and has been a great alternative to other forms of jaw manipulation! Tanya’s knowledge and skill with CranioSacral Therapy has proven to be helpful with bladder urgency and has made my life a lot more predictable. What I once would have dismissed because it is not ‘real’ therapy seems to be helping me! I may be able to avoid, or at least postpone, other corrective measures for this problem.”
How Was This Therapy Developed?
This therapy wad developed by Dr. John E. Upledger while he was a professor of
Biomechanics at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University
from 1975 to 1983. During this time, with his team of anatomists, physiologist, biophysicists, and bioengineers he performed and published the clinical research that formed the basis for the approach he named CranioSacral Therapy. In 1985 Dr. Upledger founded the Upledger Institute in Florida to teach people worldwide about the value of this therapy.
